Cheryl Snell
Cheryl Snell
is a classical pianist whose training informs her writing, but her love
of words can be traced to her father. At the table, he would recite Chaucer,
Coleridge and Robert Burns--complete with brogue. When she married into
a Hindu Brahmin family, she began to write seriously as a way to penetrate
the protocol of another culture. Her novel, Shiva's Arms,
and many of her poems explore South Indian life. She agrees with Mr. Faulkner,
who said, "I never know what I think about something until I
read what I've written on it."
Snell has written two collections of poetry, Flower
Half Blown (Finishing Line Press, 2002) and Epithalamion
(Little Poem Press, 2004). She also has a new chapbook of poems, Samsara,
being released by Pudding House Press. Shiva’s
Arms is her first novel. Cheryl is Book Reviews Editor for Alsop
Review. She lives in Maryland with her husband, P.S. Krishnaprasad.
